MAKATI CITY, METRO MANILA -  Many small office/home office (SOHOs) businesses in the Philippines are predicted to require huge volumes of printing for collaterals, brochures, and other forms of marketing materials.

The home printing market in the Philippines is in an uptrend, according to an August 2010 report by International Data Corporation (IDC). About 50 percent of the market in the Philippines remains to be single-function inkjet and many of these are purchased by small-to-medium scale businesses.

This is what document printing firm Fuji Xerox is hoping to tap as it introduces a line of SOHO-type printers. During a recent press briefing, the company introduced four new models, three of which are single-function printers while one is a multifunction printer.

These models are the single function DocuPrint CP105 and CP205, and the multifunction DocuPrint CM205B.

James Henderson, Fuji Xerox Printer Channel President for Asia Pacific and China said a large number of SMEs in the Philippines are shifting towards home printing from outsourced printing shops primarily because of the manageability of creating their own documents.

The cost of home or office printing has become lower than having them outsourced.

Henderson said the SOHO model is typical among starting businesses in the Philippines. In this model, they are able to scale up their operations as the need arises.

“Companies can start small and spend small so when they grow, they are still able to use their existing equipment but at the same time upgrade to new ones.”

Henderson also said they are banking on the brand of Fuji Xerox as a photocopying company to establish a foothold on the printing business, which is already being dominated by companies like HP, Epson, and Canon.

In fact, the new printer line is using new printing technology that Henderson claimed will be the “next standard” for the entire printing industry. Fuji Xerox integrated into its devices’ print heads the self-scanning light-emitting diode (SLED) and their own developed digitally enhanced lighting control imaging system (DELCIS).

The two technologies allow the print heads to produce better color tones at higher resolutions with only a fraction of power.

“Most people don’t have to know the technology but we’re already reaching out to other printing device manufacturers who could embrace this kind of technology. Eventually, it’s consumers who will benefit the most,” Henderson said.
